Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

20 planes flew low over the school during the afternoon - the children, who have had 2 bad nights, were frightened and rushed into the shelters.
