Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

18 children went to the annexe this morning at 11 and had teeth extracted. 13 of the 18 were absent in the afternoon.
