Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

Attendance very irregular again - there are a few cases of chicken-pox and many bad colds. Some rain has fallen this week and the footwear problem is a real one; supplies are very short, materials are poor and repairing very slow.
