Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

15th May 1941
Attendance dropped - reason, machine-gunning and dive bombing of the town at 6pm on the 14th - damage extensive - no fatal casualties.
