Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!
We'll be adding the best bits from the last 116 years, on the day that they occurred, so check this page regularly to see what was happening at Swanage first on this day in history!

8th May 1945
Peace in Europe was announced by wireless last night and this morning.
The children met at 9am as usual - had a talk and a short service and were then dismissed for 2 days special holiday.
