Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

Attendance has been poor especially in the mornings - air raid warning lasting 6 & 7 hours at night cause broken rest & children are very tired.
