Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

28th August 1940
Alane was heard overhead in the afternoon and machine gun firing started suddenly. \children went under their tables. Silence followed so work was resumed.
