Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

Mrs Taggart gave a demonstration with the spinning wheel and showed an Angora rabbit and the materials which can be spun such as camel hair, dogs hair, cat and rabbit fur, sheeps wool etc.
