Swanage First School was opened in 1897 at Mount Scar to serve the children of Swanage town. We have log books dating back to 1893, before the official opening - mostly they are records of attendance but there are some interesting notes that show just how times have changed!

18th November 1940
30 children were absent this morning and 23 this afternoon after an air raid warning which lasted all night - 11 hours. Bombs were dropped on the town - a Prep School, Forres, being struck, and several houses.
