A little snow. Temperature of large room at 9am was 38 (about 3 degrees celsius) - fires are lighted much too late. Exercises were taken at intervals, as children were very cold.

12th January 1942
A terribly cold morning. No fire had been lit in the Babies' Room at 8.50 - the temperature was 35 degrees (Almost freezing). In the main room the radiators were almost cold and the temperature 40 degrees. Both rooms were unfit for children to sit in ... as no blackout has been fixed 9am school in winter weather is very bad for the children.
Fires could not be lit to heat the school until daylight because there with no blackouts fixed the school would have been visible to bombers flying over in the dark.

8th January 1945
School re-opened today. There is still no heating.
The Infants' School boiler had sprung a leak in early December 1944 and should have been fixed over the Christmas holidays. The younger children had to make use of the 'Mixed School' hall for their classroom as temperatures dropped below zero in the building where the Reception classroom is now.
